Shakespeare’s classic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is reawakened in this breathless production brimming with magic, mirth and mayhem. Love is in the air in Athens – and it’s contagious. Besides the royal wedding, which is just days away, young lovers are dreaming of enchanted futures together. Hermia and Lysander are besotted with one another, while Helena adores Demetrius. The only snag is that Demetrius loves Hermia – and he’s got Hermia’s father on his side. So nobody is happy. (Shakespeare wasn’t kidding when he said the course of true love never did run smooth.) This production is quick as a shadow. Fast, funny and family-friendly, this is A Midsummer Night’s Dream reimagined. Presented by Bell Shakespeare and Arts and Culture Trust.

Margaret River is a battle against the elements. Raw open ocean swells slam the rugged coastline, the cold waters teem with wildlife, and even the world’s best surfers feel small against the untamed power of Western Australia. Whether the event is held at Main Break or The Box the combination of big barrels and shallow ledges make this one of the most demanding stops on tour. A heat out here truly means stepping out of your comfort zone and into the wild.

You can, if you want. Two weeks in conversion therapy. Kat wants to be there, Hez thought it was a leadership camp, and Sloane’s brought care packages. In a whirlwind of smuggled phones, attempted escapes, punishment essays and betrayals, five queer kids find their own. It’s self-hatred and religious trauma but in a fun way! Award-winning playwright Sam Nerida explores in this dark and heartfelt comedy the beauty of the queer experience and the fierceness of found family. Bringing together generations of Boorloo’s queer makers, Gal Pals pays homage to the complexity of figuring yourself out in a world that doesn’t have a lot of space for you. Watch these five queer overcome obstacles not only in their environment, but in themselves, to build a community that will weather any storm. Gal Pals was seeded through projects at WA Youth Theatre Company in 2019 and 2022.

Our story is not one story, but many stories to share. Balancing Act features Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander works of art from the State Art Collection. In this exhibition, you will encounter a vast range of material revealing the wide scope of First Nations truth-telling and art-making practice. Radical observations about the ups and downs of life are placed side by side with expressions of relationships with Custodial Country; the locations and places artists and communities care for, according to their kin and family ties with place. Different versions of history are told, at times emotional and challenging, alongside moments of great beauty and poignancy. Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists use their cultural production to investigate feelings and unpack ideas around identity in the wake of colonisation. Others use their work as a way to support and express their own grief and healing, as well as to express joy and cultural belonging. Balancing Act invites you to be surprised, delighted and challenged by the stories told through the eyes of First Nations artists and their works of art.

Death Metal Summer: Deanna Templeton and Ed Templeton bring together more than 140 photographs by two of era’s most vital artists. With works from 1995-2022 selected and laid out in three large wall installations, it is a highly energetic overview of their overlapping visions. The show features many of the married couple’s most famous images – from Deanna’s exquisite swimming pool photos to Ed’s iconic pipe skating work – as well as those shot on their local turf in Huntington Beach, California, where late capitalist life and the suburban dream are collapsing in on themselves. Shooting with film and employing an off-the-cuff street-style manner, the artists respond to the chaotic intensity and impossible beauty and sadness of life in a manner that seems that there is always something at stake.
